JÁCHYMOV – gateway to the Ore Mountains

Mill Valley is one of the less conspicuous yet historically highly significant parts of Jáchymov. For centuries, this was the industrial heart of the town – home to grain mills, paper mills, wire works, smelting facilities and other production sites.

The rocky outcrop above the railway tunnel is one of the oldest historically documented sites in the Jáchymov region. It combines the story of a medieval watchtower with spa-era walking traditions and several powerful legends that gave the place its present name, Maiden’s Leap.

Pfarrwiese is one of the geologically and historically remarkable yet largely unknown sites in the Jáchymov region. Its remoteness has contributed to its relative obscurity, despite being mentioned in the earliest records of the town.

The landscape of Jáchymov is shaped not only by its mining history but also by trees that have stood here for centuries as silent witnesses to time. Some of them have been declared protected memorial trees, while others have disappeared due to natural causes or human intervention.

The Imperial Lime Tree Avenue in Jáchymov is one of the town’s most distinctive landscape features. Its history is linked not only to the Habsburg monarchy but also to the name of Marie Curie-Skłodowska.

Eliáš Valley is one of the most historically significant parts of the mining landscape of Jáchymov. From the sixteenth century until the late twentieth century, intensive mining activity fundamentally reshaped the landscape.

The granite rock formation known as Brautbett, or the Bride’s Bed, is a striking natural landmark above Jáchymov, combining distinctive geology with local legend.
