Introduction
The Forest Café, also called Belvedere, was established after 1929 by Jaroslav Urban during the dynamic expansion of the spa resort.
History
Urban began as an assistant waiter in Hradec Králové and eventually became owner of the Grandhotel there. In 1924 he came to Jáchymov to manage the damaged Radium Palace hotel. After his partner returned to Prague, Urban remained the sole tenant.
After 1929 he renovated the hotel extensively and developed its surroundings, adding terraces, a promenade staircase, a luxury bar, walking paths, and tennis courts. The Forest Café was built near the courts as a destination and starting point for walks.
Description
Located above the hotel, the café remains a starting point for walks into the Valley of Mills and along the restored Severin Promenade.
Restoration
Among its distinguished guests were President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and his successor Eduard Beneš. The Forest Café remains a reminder of the golden era of the spa town.
