JÁCHYMOV – gateway to the Ore Mountains

The Svornost Mine was established during the silver era of Jáchymov. Several centuries later, however, it gained an entirely new significance. The place where miners had originally extracted silver became the source of raw material for producing one of the most precious substances of the early 20th century – radium. Jáchymov became the first and, for a certain period, the only place in the world where radium was produced industrially.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a building was created in Jáchymov that represented a new approach to spa care. It was not merely a hotel, a bathhouse, or a place near a healing spring. From the very beginning, it was designed as a comprehensive medical facility where patients could find everything they needed under one roof – accommodation, medical care, and therapeutic procedures.
