ALBERICH HEIDEMANN (1808–1898)

Roman Catholic priest, Cistercian monk and long-serving abbot of Lilienfeld Abbey. He was also active in public life as a member of the Lower Austrian Diet and the Imperial Council and was awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Franz Joseph.
JAKOB SCHEDLICH (1591–1669)

Organist, organ builder, clockmaker and long-serving mayor of Jáchymov. His workshop supplied organs to many towns in Bohemia and Saxony during the 17th century.
SAMUEL FISCHER (1547–1600)

Lutheran theologian, pastor, university professor and rector of the University of Jena who was born in Jáchymov. He belonged to the important Protestant scholars of the late sixteenth century.
ERWIN MANFRED HERMANN SCHNEIDER (1906–1987)

Mountaineer, cartographer and professor born in Jáchymov, nicknamed the “King of the Seven-Thousanders”. He became famous for his ascents in the Himalayas and the Andes as well as for his pioneering cartographic work.
ANDREW (ANDREAS) WIEDEMANN (†1591)

Roman Catholic cleric, Cistercian abbot and later general vicar of the order who was born in Jáchymov. He served in several important monasteries of the Bohemian lands and ended his life as abbot of the monastery in Neuzelle in Lower Lusatia.
CARL ANTON SIEGL (1851–1943)

Historian, archivist and museum director born in Jáchymov. He spent most of his professional life in Cheb as director of the municipal archive and museum and contributed significantly to the study of regional history in western Bohemia.
JOHANN RICHTER (1537–1616)

Mathematician, astronomer and inventor of precision instruments born in Jáchymov. In scholarly literature he is also known by the Latinized name Johannes Praetorius.
JOHANN MAJOR (1533–1600)

Theologian, poet and humanist born in Jáchymov. He served as a professor at the University of Wittenberg and his life was strongly shaped by the theological conflicts within Lutheranism during the sixteenth century.
MAXIMILIAN HÜTTISCH (1911–1988)

Painter, graphic artist and art educator born in Jáchymov. His work combines realistic depictions of European places with surrealist visions reflecting the tensions and crises of the modern world.
JOHANN CRIGINGER (1521–1571)

Cartographer, theologian and writer born in Jáchymov. He created one of the earliest modern maps of the Czech lands, later included in the famous atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum.
