VILLA OLYMPIA (NO. 972)
Introduction
The town forms a living textbook of architectural development, from late Gothic houses to twentieth-century housing estates. Among the less conspicuous yet significant buildings is Villa Olympia on Dukelských hrdinů Avenue.
Origin and Context
By the late 1920s, modernism had emerged as a movement rejecting historical stylistic references. Villa Olympia exemplifies this new architectural language.
The house was designed in 1931 by local entrepreneur and builder Franz Rehn. After several revisions, it was completed in 1936.
Architecture
The corner building has one main storey, a mansard roof and a habitable attic. A cylindrical bay rising from a stepped base forms a small tower with a مخروطical roof.
The façade features a refined grey stone-textured plaster. Decoration is minimal, limited to subtle cornices. The most striking element is the stucco emblem of the five Olympic rings with the inscription OLYMPIA and the year 1936.
Significance
Villa Olympia is a unique example of modernist architecture in the town. Its clean lines and symbolic references make it an important reminder of the architectural and cultural climate of the 1930s.
