HAVLÍČKOVA 467 – HALF-TIMBERED HOUSE
Introduction
House No. 467 in Havlíčkova Street is a rare example of half-timbered architecture. It stands near today’s Slovany Square, formerly Mathesiusplatz or St. Anne’s Square. This area marked the historical expansion of the town into the valley. Extensive demolitions have altered its original character.
The one-storey house with a gabled roof is oriented with its eaves towards the street and was originally part of a terraced row.
Construction
The ground floor is built of rubble stone in the Renaissance tradition. The upper storey is a timber-framed structure resting directly on the masonry below. The frame consists of vertical posts and horizontal beams forming square panels, stabilised by diagonal braces. The infill comprises wattle and daub with characteristic scoring for plaster adhesion. Parts of the original plaster survive beneath later layers, though heavily deteriorated.
South Façade
The street façade contains six irregularly arranged windows in three axes, a central entrance, a later garage opening on the left and two windows on the right.
West Façade
After demolition of the neighbouring building, a brick wall was added. No openings are present.
North Façade
Originally symmetrical with a rear entrance, it now contains several later openings, some insensitively inserted into the timber structure.
Heritage Value
House No. 467 is an important example of traditional construction in the town. Due to the rarity of such preserved structures, it holds considerable heritage value, although its poor state of maintenance threatens its future.
