ANTON PETER BÖHM (c. 1785–c. 1870)
Activity in Jáchymov
Anton Peter Böhm was probably born around 1785. In 1815 he became parish priest and dean in Jáchymov, where he remained until 1860.
Alongside his pastoral duties he developed a strong interest in the history of the town and its mining industry. He collected archival sources, documents and historical records related to Jáchymov and its mines.
Chronicle of Jáchymov
The result of his lifelong work was the extensive Chronicle of Jáchymov and its Mines, covering the history of the town between 1515 and 1835.
The chronicle includes not only a detailed written narrative but also numerous maps, drawings and plans. Among them are maps of churches, chapels and crosses, illustrations of the first coins minted in the town, guild emblems and maps showing the locations of mines and adits.
Rediscovery of the Chronicle
For many years the manuscript was considered lost. It was rediscovered only in 2004 in Kempten in the Allgäu region of Germany and subsequently prepared for publication.
The book contains 664 pages in a large format of approximately 23 × 36 cm and represents one of the most important historical sources for the history of Jáchymov.
Death
Anton Peter Böhm probably died around 1870.
